For more information concerning the function and purpose of AA Central Offices and Intergroups, see&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aa.org\/assets\/en_US\/mg-02_centralorinter.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">AA Guidelines for Central Offices<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><meta charset=\"utf-8\">The board of directors and representatives of local AA groups (central office reps or COR\u2019s) meet on the second Thursday of odd numbered months at the central office location to discuss ways to expand and improve areas of service by the office. These meetings are open to all interested AA members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p><strong>Every A.A. member wants every alcoholic in the world to have the chance he had. Every A.A. member wants unity for our movement. Every A.A. member wants the good opinion&nbsp;of medicine, religion, and the general public. We know we must have these things or the new&nbsp;man may never get his chance. The Intergroup associations are the best insurance we can have that our life lines to the hundreds of thousands yet to come will never break or tangle. Let us&nbsp;always be generous. Let us warmly support Intergroup.<\/strong><\/p><cite><strong>A.A. Co-Founder Bill W. 1949<\/strong><\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#0071a1\">What the staff, volunteers and Board members do here at NCMCO:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Answer inquiries about Alcoholics Anonymous and meetings in WNC<\/strong>.&nbsp; When calls come in from individuals looking for help, staff &amp; volunteers contact AA members on the 12-step&nbsp;volunteer list which is maintained by the 12-step volunteer coordinator.&nbsp; The 12-step volunteer is given the name &amp; phone number of the caller seeking help. &nbsp;(Names &amp; numbers of AA members\/volunteers are&nbsp;<em>never<\/em>&nbsp;given out.) &nbsp;Individuals seeking help for problems other than alcohol are referred to the appropriate programs or agencies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Coordinate with the After-hours Hotline Volunteers <\/strong>to handle calls after hours. For over 50 years, Western North Carolina alcoholics have called 254-8539 (Asheville&#8217;s area code changed in the 90s) 24\/7 for 12th Step help, meeting information, and AA business in general.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Maintain the online meeting schedule,\u00a0printed <em>Where &amp; When<\/em><\/strong>, and support District 70\u2019s ashevilleaa.org online guide. Periodically reconcile meeting information discrepancies with websites maintained by Districts 71 &amp; 80, following up with their web admins on any questions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Keep inventory of literature, chips and medallions to sell to groups and individuals<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 often packing and mailing items to those who can\u2019t get into the office during the hours we are open \u2013 10am-1pm, Mon. through Fri. \u2013 or leaving items outside the office for after-hours pickup. NCMCO accepts cash, checks or credit cards for all purchases.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Publish <strong><em>Mountain Doin\u2019s<\/em><\/strong>,<\/strong> a monthly digital newsletter to keep\u00a0the Western North Carolina AA community apprised of events and articles of special interest. \u00a0A link to the current edition is emailed to anyone who requests it &#8212; currently over 700 members &#8212; on the first of each month and it is always available &#8212; along with an archive of the past 50 years&#8217; editions &#8212; on the News &amp; Events page of this website.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Publish this website<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Work with the various District Committees<\/strong>&nbsp;(Treatment, Corrections, CPC\/PI, Archives) and those in the community seeking information about AA.&nbsp; Spread the word about local and national AA events, conventions and workshops and act as a clearinghouse for information and logistical support between individual AA members,&nbsp;groups, local and state committees, General Service Office in New York, and the community at large.&nbsp; Store District 70 Archives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hold General Committee (combined Board and COR\/Central Office Representative) Meetings<\/strong>\u00a0online on the second Thursday of odd-numbered months (linked on the Calendar page of this site), to discuss Central Office business and provide a forum for suggestions and concerns. The meetings are open to all and we welcome new ideas and input.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Contributions<\/strong>\u00a0and the small profit on sale of merchandise &#8212; we do not mark up AAWS literature &#8212; help pay for rent, phone and internet, office supplies, copier rental, answering service, stamps and postage, and payroll for the office manager. For complete Profit &amp; Loss statement, see the\u00a0<em>Mountain Doin\u2019s<\/em>\u00a0which is posted each month on aancmco.org &amp; ashevilleaa.org<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-blue-background-color has-text-color has-background\"><strong>NCMCO, guided by the latest version of <em>GSO Guidelines: Internet<\/em>, shall 1) take reasonable and commonsense precautions and 2) employ discretionary practices that help protect BUT DO NOT GUARANTEE the online anonymity of A.A.s who may communicate and share information with NCMCO.
